This site collects what you send through the contact form and anonymous statistics about how the site is used. I do not sell your information, and there is no advertising on the site.

Who I am
Forty4 Consulting is the independent consulting practice of Joshua Bauder, based in the New York City area. This policy covers forty4.co and every page on it.
What I collect
I collect information in four ways.
- The contact form. If you use it, I receive your name, email address, and message, plus anything else you choose to add: a phone number, your company, and how you prefer to be reached. Once your message reaches me, it is also saved to my own client management system so I can keep track of the conversation.
- Site analytics. My analytics tool records the pages you view, how far you scroll on articles, clicks on links such as email and LinkedIn, and use of the share buttons. It also records your browser, device type, the site that referred you, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address.
- Session recordings. The same tool records anonymous replays of how visitors move through the site. Text you type into form fields is masked, so it does not appear in a recording.
- Standard server data. My hosting provider handles your IP address and browser details when it serves you a page. Every website does this.
Analytics is anonymous. I never identify visitors in it, and I never send it names or email addresses. It uses a random ID that I cannot connect to who you are.
How I use it
- To read and answer your message.
- To see which pages and articles are useful, so I can improve the site.
- To keep the site secure and block spam.
I do not use your information for advertising, and I do not build profiles of visitors.
Cookies and local storage
The site sets one first-party analytics cookie and keeps the same random ID in your browser's local storage. Apart from the bot check on the contact page, which may store technical data in your browser so it can work, nothing else on the site sets cookies. There are no advertising cookies and no social media trackers.
Who processes your information
I use a small number of service providers. Each handles information only to provide its service to me. I also run my own client management system, which is mine, not a separate company.
- Vercel hosts the site.
- Resend delivers contact form messages to my inbox.
- Cloudflare runs a bot check (Turnstile) on the contact page. It sees your IP address and browser details.
- PostHog provides analytics and session recordings, and stores that data in its US region.
- My own client management system keeps a record of everyone who contacts me through the form, so I can follow up and keep track of the conversation.
I do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising. I may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long I keep it
Contact form messages stay in my email and in my client management system for as long as they are useful for a conversation or my business records. I will delete yours from both if you ask. The site itself does not save your message in a database; it hands it off to my inbox and my client management system. My email delivery provider keeps its own log of sent messages under its own retention rules.
Analytics data and recordings are kept for as long as my analytics plan retains them, and they are not tied to your name or email address. Your IP address is held briefly in memory to limit repeated form submissions, then dropped.
Your choices
You can ask what contact form information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Use the contact form or write to the address below.
People in California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and some other places have specific legal rights over their personal information. If you are one of them, use the same route to exercise those rights.
To limit analytics, clear or block cookies and local storage for this site in your browser. The site works the same either way. Because analytics data is anonymous, I usually cannot find and delete one visitor's records.
Children
This site is written for business readers and is not directed to children under 13. I do not knowingly collect information from children.
Links to other sites
Pages and articles link to other sites, such as LinkedIn, which have their own privacy practices. The share buttons are ordinary links, so nothing loads from those networks until you click one.
Changes to this policy
If I change how the site handles information, I will update this page and the date at the top.
